ENJOY IT FOR LONGER
Care & usage tips.
pro planche combines the pleasant qualities of wood with the easy hygiene of modern materials. These simple tips will keep your board looking good and working reliably.
Cleaning
Clean the board before first use. It can then be washed safely in the dishwasher or by hand. Always allow it to dry completely. Its heat-retaining properties help it dry especially well in the dishwasher.
Moisture & warping
Only store the board flat once it is fully dry. If residual moisture causes slight bowing, dampen the concave side and leave the board overnight with that side facing down on a flat work surface.
Marks & colour care
Hard water may leave pale marks on the dark surface. If needed, rub a small amount of vegetable cooking oil into the dry board. This helps prevent marks and refreshes its dark appearance.
Use both sides
Use one side for cutting and the other for arranging and serving, for example. This keeps one surface attractive and largely free from cut marks for longer.
Cut marks & wear
Light cut marks and minor abrasion are normal on the blade-friendly surface. Clean rough areas thoroughly with a coarse kitchen sponge. The surface may also be carefully sanded when needed; clean the board thoroughly afterwards.
Secure grip
For sustainability reasons, most models have no plastic or rubber feet; only pro planche performance has non-slip elements. For demanding cutting tasks, place a slightly damp tea towel between the board and worktop.
CARE & USE
Frequently asked questions.
Everything you need to know about cleaning, using, making and caring for your pro planche cutting board.
01Can I sand down cut marks and refresh the board?+

Cut marks
Cut marks and natural wear develop over time depending on use and the sharpness of the knives.

Sand with a fine grit
Carefully sand the cutting surface with fine-grit sandpaper until it is smooth again. Then clean it thoroughly – preferably in the dishwasher – and let it dry completely.

Rub with cooking oil
Place about one tablespoon of cooking oil in the centre and spread it evenly with a kitchen towel. Dark residue on the towel is simply remaining surface dirt.

Like new again
Cut and usage marks are almost completely gone and the board regains its deep black colour.
01Can I clean my cutting board in the dishwasher?+
Yes. All pro planche boards can be cleaned easily and safely in the dishwasher.
02Can I place a hot pan on the board?+
Yes. The products resist temperatures up to 170 °C and can also be used beneath hot cookware.
03Are the boards made from a sustainable material?+
Yes. The sheet material is made from 66 layers of paper bonded with food-safe resin.
04Which board size is right for me?+
pro planche classic is the versatile all-round board for everyday preparation and fits well in cupboards and dishwashers. pro planche snack is ideal for smaller meals and aperitifs, while pro planche chef offers generous space for preparing complete menus.
05Where are the products made?+
The products are made regionally by a socio-economic enterprise in East Tyrol, Austria. The base material comes from Germany.
06Will food leave colour stains?+
Thanks to the dark colour and special surface, visible stains are very unlikely. Foods such as berries or beetroot can be prepared without concern.
07Does the board absorb odours?+
The special surface absorbs hardly any odours. Thorough dishwasher cleaning also makes it suitable for strongly scented foods such as onions.
08Can I use both sides?+
Yes. One side has a juice groove for moist foods; the smooth side is ideal for cutting, arranging and serving.
09Can the board warp over time?+
The many paper layers give the board high rigidity. Residual moisture or uneven drying may temporarily cause slight bowing, but this is reversible. Let the board dry completely, preferably upright, and follow the care instructions.
10Has the board been tested for food contact?+
Yes. The material was tested and approved by an independent institute in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1935/2004 and Regulation (EU) No 10/2011.
11Why does my new board have its own smell?+
A harmless production-related smell may be present at first. It disappears after several cleaning cycles, after which the board is odour-neutral and absorbs hardly any food odours.
12Why are cut marks appearing?+
Light cut marks are normal. The surface has a balanced, blade-friendly hardness. A small amount of wear protects your knives and is unavoidable with regular use.
13How should I store the board?+
Dry the board fully after cleaning or leave it upright to dry before storing it flat.
14What are pro planche boards made from?+
They consist of 66 layers of paper and a food-safe resin derived from cashew nut shells. The manufacturer had the material laboratory tested and confirms that it contains no BPA, no PFAS and no microplastics. High pressure and heat create a durable, completely plastic-free cutting board.
15Where does the black colour come from?+
The boards are not coloured with synthetic dyes. Their dark colour comes from the food-safe resin.
16Why does my new board appear to rub off?+
Despite thorough cleaning before dispatch, tiny machining residues may remain in the groove or engraving. They are harmless and disappear after the first cleaning cycles. The material itself is not dyed and does not rub off.
